About the Project

When the McCall family set out to create a permanent home for the production of their award winning wines, they looked to DFA to design a winery and event space that paid homage to the historical vernacular of the region and landscape. Our studio proposed a scheme for a multi-phased project, consisting of 3 separate elements: a wine storage facility, and special events space, and the distillery itself. The campus deploys architecture that is in keeping with local traditions, with a focus on shingles, wood, and stone, but executed through a contemporary and structured design. The wine production and storage buildings are sunken into the rolling landscape on the property, capped with a dormer shaped building above grade, bisected down its center and open to a delivery roadway below.
