About the Project
DFA completely redesigned the resident and visitor experience of this Chelsea Co-Op, which was devoid of any intriguing design elements. Beginning with the entry canopy, DFA collaborated with the metal workshop of Silman, a structural engineering firm, to create a suspended structure over the entrance and into the main lobby. The canopy’s skin also serves as its structure, folding over on itself to bolster its shape and floating overhead as people enter and exit the building. The lobby integrates stone, walnut, glass, and aluminum to create a sophisticated, clean space. The integrated reception furniture and attendant desk are designed in the same vein as the canopy.
